Janet ~ watercolour painting of turtles and whales using wax resist

Topic:    Wax Resist - It’s not just candle wax! But it is fun!

What it is, different effects and how they can be used in different contexts in watercolour will be shown.

This session will be slightly different in that we will explore the ‘what it is, why it is used and how to apply it’ in a variety of contexts. I will bring examples of my paintings where it has been used successfully and less so and talk about composition, colour and contrast.  I hope I will leave  you with some ideas

I will be demonstrating the use of wax resist to paint a turtle which you may like to follow but for more adventurous painters I will also bring resources to allow you to make up your  own composition of turtles or  whales and if marine subjects don’t float your boat, textured barks.  Of course if you  wish to do your own thing in other than watercolour and that’s fine. The more ideas the better.

Please bring

your watercolour kit and paper

Some scrap paper for trying thing out

Wax crayons, oil pastels or a white candle but don’t buy these as I have plenty

Your own resource  if you don’t like mine

I will bring

Resource materials, including  photocopies  of my demo painting

Wax medium

Some other things like salt and texture paste with which you may like to have a go
